Replacing Your Car or Truck Interiors Upholstery

Thinking of a new look for your car or truck? Maybe some newly wrapped seats will do the trick. The first question you should ask yourself is,do I want to keep the stock look and value or go totally custom? When restoring a cars original status; stitching, number of panels/ style and type of materiel are an important aspect in keeping the cars value and stock look. On the other hand, color change, types of material,style, or even stitching and/or embroidery can make the big difference in your personal ride. Here are a few tips and suggestions that should come in handy when disassembling your car. Most interior shops require you send them just the "skins" of the seats. So removing the seats and getting the "skins" off is a must, but do not worry its not as hard as it sounds. Ok, "leather seats", most of the time,the only part of the seat that is leather is the main center section,the rest is usually vinyl or some other type of fabric. For example,the bolsters are usually vinyl because it lasts longer than leather in the "wear" department. The backs are vinyl or carpet.

Starting out, disconnect the battery! This is important to assure not shorting out any loose or bare wires that could damage your cars electrical system or computer resulting in a costly repair later. Now take a good look around at bottom of seat for plastic pieces covering the bolts that hold it in, these are usually held on with some type of clips or a small screw or two. Remove these pieces. Be careful gm plastic is fragile and will break if bent too far. Most front seats are held in with 4 bolts. Remove these bolts. (Note: for electric seats,it may be necessary to move the seat forward and backwards to get to the bolts, so reconnecting the battery is required.) now look under the seat with a flashlight and find plugs and/or wire connections that need to be disconnected before removing the seat from your vehicle. Carefully disconnect them. Make note to ensure proper reconnection later. Now you can carefully take the seat out of the car! Make sure you keep track of what screw and bolts came from where, to ensure proper replacement. Same with the plug connections. Most, if not all plugs, can only go back in one way. Take a few pictures for future reference if need be. Also, you can put your parts in a baggie and label them for easy identification later on.

Once the seats are removed from the car, take a good look at them, see how the upholstery is attached to the seat. (Take a few pictures if necessary). You may need to remove power seat switches from the side of the seat or maybe even a video monitor from the headrest before removing the "skins" from the seat. Be careful when removing the video monitor cable as you take the headrest out. Take your time, if you have trouble or need help,you can go online to a website about your car/truck to get detailed information about this. (Ie. How to get this monitor out of my headrest.) again these parts are usually held on with a small screw or clips,using a plastic tool to pry clips is recommended. One more thing,if your car is equipped with heated seats keep an eye out for this wire connection. Sometimes the heating element is attached to the fabric itself or the foam part of the seat. Don't forget to remind your "interior" people about the heating elements in your seat skins.

Now you can remove the fabric, newer vehicles have plastic strips that attach to the seat frame or flat metal part of the seat, older cars have hog-rings,this is a small metal ring that holds the fabric to a thick wire on the bottom of the seat.(A hog-ring tool is needed to replace hog-rings,you can use a good pair of side cutters to cut the old hog-rings off and you must use new hog-rings when reattaching fabric to seat). Be careful, there are sharp metal edges on the seat,wearing leather gloves is a good idea. After you get all clips off, remove fabric. Most newer cars have Velcro strips holding the fabric to the foam part in certain areas, be careful not to rip the foam when separating the Velcro strips. Slide your hand up between the fabric and the foam to separate the Velcro strips. Now kind of turn the fabric inside-out and peel up from bottom. This procedure is for the up right part of the seat, as for the sitting part undo the clips or hog-rings and remove fabric.

Once you get your "skins" back from your vendor, check to make sure everything is the way you want it. Then you can start to re rap your seats. With the front seats, start at the top with the "skin" turned inside-out and roll it down top to bottom. Be careful with the Velcro strips. You probably have to cut out the area where the power seat controls go. Make sure the "skin" is pulled down all the way before making any cuts or connecting Velcro. Make a small cut in middle, then cut to the corners, be careful not to cut too far. Trim the fabric as needed until the power controls fit snug and clip into its proper place. This is the same basic procedure for the headrest monitors, if applicable. You may also need to make a couple small holes where the headrest posts go thru the top of the seat. Some pulling and stretching is required to get the new "skins" on and clipped properly. So you may have to work at it a little.

One more step, put the seats back in, carefully, make sure all your wire connections are plugged in and all the bolts are tight. Reconnect the battery and make sure everything works properly. Hopefully it does. Now you're ready to go cruising in style.

Although many sauna ladles are made entirely of wood, some feature copper or stainless steel scoops and cedar, birch or pine handles. Some ladles also come with attached leather straps.

Sauna peg racks - Sauna peg racks are recommended for anyone who wants a place near or in the sauna room to hang their towel or bathrobe. Wooden racks with four, five or six dowel peg hooks are popular with bathers who enjoy the company of family or friends in their sauna. Peg racks such as these are sometimes called clothes racks or towel racks. Another word commonly used to describe a peg rack is hanger.

Sauna soap - Regular soap may be too harsh for some sauna bathers, but sauna soap is specifically intended for tender sensitive skin and can be very effective under sauna conditions. Additional bath and body products can be used either before or after a sauna session to help cleanse and moisturize your skin.

Sauna timers - Sauna bathers use timers to help them keep track of how long they're in the sauna and ensure that they not spend too much time in the heat. Traditionalists may prefer the simplicity of a 15-minute sand timer, while folks with contemporary tastes may rely on a 90-minute electronic timer or the more modern, programmable device that often comes as part of a sleekly designed control panel and offers time-delay and automatic shut-off safety features. Since wearing a wristwatch in a hot sauna is both impractical and dangerous, the sauna timer can certainly be a useful accessory.

Sauna whisks - In Finland, a sauna whisk is called either vihta or vasta. In its most traditional form, the vihta or vasta is a thick bunch of young, tender, leafy birch twigs used to promote blood circulation and cleanse a sauna bather's skin once perspiration has sufficiently softened it. The bather actually flagellates or slaps him or herself with the twigs after dipping them in water. Although the amount of force used usually depends on personal preference, this activity is not supposed to be painful or sexual, and many Finnish sauna enthusiasts see nothing wrong with asking someone else in the sauna to hit them with the twigs. Purists may argue that bundled birch twigs make the best sauna whisks, but, in some countries where birch is hard to find, cedar or pine is sometimes used. Whether the twigs are birch, cedar or pine, the slapping action causes a pleasant aroma to be released into the air. Other possible choices include oak, maple, mountain ash, hazel and eucalyptus.

Thermometers and hygrometers - By definition, thermometers measure temperature, by using materials that change in some way when they are heated or cooled. In a mercury or alcohol thermometer, the liquid expands as it is heated and contracts when it is cooled. German physicist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit invented both the alcohol and mercury thermometer in the early 1700s and introduced the temperature scale that bears his name in 1724. Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius invented the Celsius temperature scale, also known as the centigrade scale, in 1742. A hygrometer measures the moisture content or the humidity of air or any gas. Italian artist, scientist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci built the first crude hygrometer in the 1400s, and Italian physician Francesco Folli invented a more practical one in 1664. As sauna accessories, thermometers and hygrometers are available separately as two items, combined as one, or in package sets. All the ab exercise products that I've seen offer one thing in general: the ability to do targeted abdominal exercises in what is claimed to be a superior way to regular stomach exercises. Is there really any benefit in this?

Some ab exercisers comes with various support mechanisms that are designed to provide a more comfortable workout experience. This can take the shape of a headrest or a back cushions. These may indeed make it easier for people with back or neck problems to perform crunches. However, they may also make the exercise less effective since part of the challenge is to keep your body steady as you perform the exercise. By providing this kind of support, you make the muscles work less, not more.

When the exercise machine provides added resistance the picture can change. If you're looking to strengthen your abdominal muscles, adding resistance can indeed make the muscles work harder and become stronger. However, one of the common complaints about many ab machines is that the resistance they offer is not substantial and may be suitable for beginners only.

Do Ab Machines Burn Belly Fat?

This is the most important question to answer. Unfortunately, it seems that the answer is no. This is due to a number of reasons:

1. The basic assumption that abdominal exercises can burn stomach fat is false. There is no such thing as spot fat reduction. It doesn't exist. Your body doesn't burn fat from the body parts that you train. It burns fat from your various body parts depending on your genetics, hormones, and other factors. You can't burn fat from your abs primarily just because you're doing stomach exercises. It doesn't work that way.

2. Ab machines don't really give you a workout experience which is calorie expensive. This means that you won't be burning a lot of calories when you use them, not a lot of fat, either.

So, are ab machines worth their price? I am not a big fat of these machines. I think that there are plenty of free ab exercises that do as much good as those that you can do with most machines.

So it's that time of year. Time to buy gifts for your friends and family yet again as the world all over celebrates this corporate, commercial, money-hungry, festive and generosity-filled holiday. Some of you may already have it all taken care of by now. Others may be last-minute shoppers like myself and think that even now is just the start of the shopping season. No matter which you fall under, there's bound to be at least a couple more on your list to check off. In this article, we'll give you some ideas for gifts for those movie buffs you may have on your list.

Of course a movie buff loves movies. However, this gift selection isn't as obvious as some of you may think. In fact, it could be one of the hardest choices for a movie fan there is. Movies are definitely good for us movie buffs. But again, be careful in what you buy. Or at least save the receipt and don't be offended when that person needs to return your gift.

Now for those of you wanting to get your movie buff some movies, but don't want to go through the headache of making sure you don't get the wrong thing, Netflix is your answer. Netflix allows that cinephile on your list access to all kinds of movies from the old to new, domestic to foreign, indie to blockbuster and so on. The great thing about this too, they get to choose which movies they want to watch, while you just pay for the subscription. Netflix Gifts come in a variety of plans and a variety of lengths. You can get your movie lover just the streaming package or you can choose a package which allows streaming, plus up to 1, 2, or 3 DVDs out at a time. The movie buff on your list will surely love a gift like this over the months as they get to catch all the latest releases.

Your typical movie buff is obsessed with movies in probably a way you will never fully understand. As such, this means everything about movies they enjoy. Thus, another good gift for that movie lover on your list is movie memorabilia. This ranges from movie posters, to shirts, to collector's items, to autographed items, to boxed sets, to film cells and artwork. All would be a welcome treat for the movie buff in your life. Likewise, the movie buff in your life most assuredly likes to keep up with all things movies and get insights into the industry they so love. As such, magazine subscriptions that cater to these types are also good choices. These include print and online types. Though I will say you'll want to go beyond the more mainstream types of Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stones, etc. Instead, look into things like 'Boxoffice Magazine', 'Hollywood Reporter', 'Premiere', 'Empire' (UK), 'MovieMaker' or 'Filmmaker Magazine'. Likewise, you could also get them a subscription to online industry rags like Variety.com or ProductionWeekly.com.

6. Universal Remote

As you probably know, the movie buff in your life definitely has a love for electronics. This is especially true when it comes to their home entertainment setup. Speaking of sound, if your movie buff doesn't already have one, a surround sound system is always a welcome addition to their home entertainment experience. With the pushing of 3D TVs, these are a definite hot item too which most movie buffs in your life would more than happily take. Again though, this is one of the more costly gifts, so expect to pay thousands for something like that.

13. Movie Storage

You probably know this already, but the movie buff in your life probably has a very extensive collection of movies. A collection they love to proudly show off as well. Of course such a collection can often become something of a beast that needs taming. Enter the realm of media storage. This actually comes in two forms as well: physical and digital. First we'll touch on the traditional physical form. This simply means cabinets and shelves. But the techphile/cinephile in your life would love it.

Every film buff is familiar with the prestigious American Film Institute. What better way to reward their passion for films than allowing your movie buff to become part of that institute by buying them a membership to the AFI. This can range from -2,500. However, these events book well in advance and can be costly. Thus, they don't make good last-minute gift ideas. Likewise, many bigger cities offer their own film festivals throughout the year. If you live near one of these, your movie buff would definitely love the chance to get to attend one of those as well.
